Sidewalk Walk

This Saturday is the East End Sidewalk Walk. Anyone who is interested in helping improve sidewalks in the City should attend, we will meet at Rock Hill Bakehouse & Cafe at 8am (18 Curran Lane). The full scope of the conditions of the sidewalks in the City is really an unknown. I asked they city for a list of sidewalks repaired the last few years, they have no idea, they have not kept any records of where they have done repairs, or what they have repaired. The starting point for the City understanding the true magnitude of the issues and being able to solicit grant money for repairs and schedule meaningful repairs has to come from understanding the scope of the problem. We will have a brief training on how to evaluate the condition of sidewalks (you will be given a chart with pictures of typical issues that will allow you to determine the condition of the sidewalks on your walk).
Please bring a fully charged smartphone with you. You will be using the GPS capability in your phone to tag photographs you take with geolocation data. This information (pictures, conditions and locations) will be shared with the City to start the process. The East End Action Committee will be more than happy to help other Wards organize their own walks. If you are interested in doing this in another area, we encourage you to attend so that you get some first hand experience with the process. Refreshments will be provided by Rock Hill Bakehouse & Cafe. Saturday 8am, 18 Curran Lane Glens Falls Right now there is an enormous amount of money available at the Federal level. Why shouldn’t Glens Falls grab a share for something that needs to be done? Grant money requests typically have to identify specific projects. Or we could do nothing and Glens Falls will, theoretically, have to do these sidewalks at some point, hopefully not in response to someone getting injured. Maybe some sort of assistance from the State or Federal government is available at that time, maybe not.
