Luckystone Feltworks
Description
I’m Robin Blakney-Carlson, owner of Luckystone- a professional feltmaker, felting instructor and fiber artist. I teach workshops at Luckystone and outside venues, and host felting workshops with internationally known guest instructors.
I’ve been fascinated with exploring the textile arts since I was a girl. I was a serious handspinner for twenty years before I was introduced to the real art of feltmaking by my sister Polly Stirling around 1994. Polly and her assistant Sachiko Kotaka developed the technique they coined “nuno felt”, an innovative method for combining fabric and fiber to create felt with lightweight, drapeable characteristics. Polly has been an incredibly creative and generous feltmaker and teacher. I have worked extensively with her as my mentor, and continue my studies with many internationally known feltmakers. I plan to keep learning new skills and explore the unlimited potential of felt as a medium. I encourage my students to do the same!
The images below show examples of my work.
